The ' bocadillo veleño' is a typical product of the Colombian Andean region, made with bijao leaf, guava and other ingredients. Its history, process and authorised companies are part of the gastronomic tradition and culture.

The 'bocadillo veleño' is a salmon-coloured block of guava paste and sugar. Two bands of this white guava paste enclose the red guava paste in the centre, protected by a bijao leaf. These blocks are packed in wooden boxes.

The mixture of ripe regional guavas and sugar is cooked to a hard consistency and a bright red colour. The traditional product is in the form of small red blocks with two thin bands at the ends of white guava, made from red and white guava.

The 'bocadillo veleño' is the designation of origin of a regional Colombian variant of the sweet. The municipality of Vélez, in the department of Santander, is considered the main manufacturing centre due to the high production of both artisanal and industrial bocadillo and the large guava plantations in the region.
